Angela Toledo

Student at Las Positas College

Growing up in a Filipino-American household, Angela’s parents always emphasized that her education was the key to advancing her career and obtaining security for the future. She applied to community college right out high school, eager to advance her family’s dream. After she applied, she found that she was not qualified for federal financial aid to help her through her education – immediately her thoughts were whether or not she had filled the application out correctly. Ultimately, she did not receive financial aid but was able to enroll in community college and found ways to support herself by applying for scholarships and participating in extracurricular activities. Her experiences have allowed for her to successfully advocate for her peers. She hopes that her work as a fellow will result in a simplified financial aid process so that no one will have to go through the same obstacles.
