Christian Chacon

Student at College of the Sequoias

Early in his college career, Christian realized how important his voice would be as a student advocate and leader. As a young adult, he remembers a distinct encounter with his mother when her tax returns came in and the look on her face when she realized she only had enough to pay the bills but not enough to help Christian through school. This feeling of despair carried with him until he received financial aid to help him through school. He attributes a lot of his success as a student to financial aid and understands that without financial aid he would have had to take semesters off to work and save up to pay for the next. He knows that there were many students like him face the same financial barriers to higher education and it is his firm belief is that in order to help students reach their highest potential we need to remove barriers to applying to financial aid.
