H.R. 2961: The Remedial Education Improvement Act
Author: Representative Donald Norcross (D-NJ-1)
Status: House Committee on Education and Workforce
We need more college graduates. Each year millions of students across the nation entering college are assessed as not college ready and required to enroll in remedial courses. These courses decrease the likelihood a student will finish their degree and increase their student debt load. Among these students placed into remediation, only 50% will ever complete a credit-bearing course and are 74% more likely to drop out of college.
The Remedial Education Improvement Act will ensure that more students reach the finish line to a college degree. Specifically, this bill will provide competitive grants for colleges and universities to develop or improve the delivery of remedial education on their campus.
