Student at the University of California, Los Angeles
As an African American former foster youth and first generation college student, Tylar’s chances of attending college would have been slim without financial assistance. Beginning his journey in 2011, Tylar has experienced various hurdles navigating and completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid every year. There were times where he could not locate information and his aid was placed on hold. His experience has made him realize how important financial aid is to low income students and firmly believes no student should bear the burden of worrying if they will be able to afford their higher education. Tylar wants to make sure that the process of applying for financial aid is simplified for students so that everyone gets a chance to get through school.
