2022 Excellence in Placement Awards

Published
May 20th, 2022

On Thursday, May 12th, we gathered to celebrate our inaugural Excellence in Placement awards, recognizing the efforts of California Community Colleges that are trailblazing leaders in ensuring students are placed in transfer-level courses as championed by education, civil rights, and student leaders across California via Assembly Bill 705. Prior to this landmark legislation, over 80% of students were being placed into remedial education courses that ultimately demoralized and set students behind in achieving their college dreams. Today, thousands of community college students are benefiting from this transformative policy at our campuses.

At this celebration, we were joined by equitable placement champions, California Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis and Assemblymember Jacqui Irwin, to honor the 2022 Excellence in Placement community college honorees. These colleges show the transformation that is possible when a concerted effort to support students to access and succeed in transfer-level English and math coursework is made. We were especially grateful to honor campuses with an Equity Designation for successfully supporting Latinx and Black students to enroll and succeed in transfer-level math and English. We congratulate the over 40 #PlacementExcellence community college honorees.
