Since our foundation in 2004, we have pushed for key policies and initiatives that ensure more Californians can attend, afford, and complete a college education, especially our state’s most vulnerable students.
The Campaign has been proud to lead the charge on:
Our Key Wins for California Students
Equitable course placement is one of higher education’s biggest civil rights issues. Since groundbreaking policy was signed into law in 2007, we have monitored implementation efforts, collaborated with diverse partners, recognized community college leaders, and passed new legislation to ensure that the college dreams of Black, Latinx, and low-income students are no longer derailed by remedial courses.
The Campaign is committed to forming real, on-the-ground connections with higher education stakeholders to shape our strategies and priorities. Every few years, we hold a statewide listening tour to hear directly from students, partners, K-12 and higher education experts, college leaders, and more to learn about their vision for California higher education. Stay tuned for our upcoming tour in 2023!
Since 2010, we have championed historic transfer reform policies that have since streamlined the transfer pathway for nearly 500,000 community college students. As a major force in passing SB 1440 (Padilla) and AB 2302 (Fong), which created the Associate Degree for Transfer (ADT), we have doubled down with additional legislation, monitored implementation, and celebrated community college and CSU campuses that are excelling in transforming transfer for California students.
We are removing barriers to higher education. Our advocacy has opened the doors to a college degree for students, such as ending the use of standardized testing at California public universities, expanding available seats for students at our public institutions, ending harmful admissions policies at the CSU, and mobilizing a committed coalition of advocates to defend diversity in college admissions through affirmative action.
