Pathways With Purpose 2026: Event Recap

On October 20, 2026, higher education leaders, students, advocates, and partners gathered in Los Angeles to help shape California’s next higher education agenda.

We examined what’s working, confronted the barriers that persist, and introduced Pathways with Purpose, a framework for redesigning college pathways around the needs, goals, and realities of today’s students—so opportunity is accessible, connected, and meaningful.

What We Heard:

• California needs clearer, more connected pathways from college preparation through completion and employment.
• Student experiences and outcomes must guide decisions about access, affordability, transfer, and economic mobility.
• Progress will require greater alignment among higher education systems, policymakers, employers, advocates, and students.
