The Los Angeles Times featured Campaign for College Opportunity President Jessie Ryan in its coverage of the University of California’s review of whether to reinstate SAT and ACT testing in undergraduate admissions. The article examines faculty concerns about college readiness alongside questions about equity and access in California’s public higher education system.

The Campaign for College Opportunity believes California can strengthen college readiness without returning to standardized testing requirements that create additional barriers for students.

As Jessie Ryan shared with the Los Angeles Times:

“Resuming SAT would be the wrong approach to an undefined problem.”

Research continues to show that California has better, more equitable ways to improve student success, including expanding academic supports, strengthening K-12 math preparation, and investing in evidence-based college readiness strategies rather than reinstating admissions tests.
