Jessie Ryan Featured in the San Francisco Chronicle on UC’s Timeline for Reviewing Standardized Testing

The San Francisco Chronicle featured Campaign for College Opportunity President Jessie Ryan in its coverage of the University of California Board of Regents’ decision to delay consideration of whether to reinstate SAT and ACT testing in undergraduate admissions until after receiving recommendations from the UC Academic Senate. The article examines the ongoing debate over standardized testing, student preparation, and equitable access to higher education.  

Representing the Campaign during public comment, Jessie urged Regents to reject a return to standardized testing, emphasizing that reinstating the SAT or ACT would “unfairly harm students of color” and that UC should focus on supporting students rather than becoming more selective. She reinforced the Campaign’s position that California can strengthen college readiness through evidence-based student supports without creating new barriers to opportunity.
