Today, the California EDGE Coalition, Campaign for College Opportunity, The Education Trust–West, Public Advocates, and The Institute for College Access and Success (TICAS) came together to urge voters to Vote Yes on Proposition 16 to ensure all Californians have an equal opportunity to attend and succeed in college, and compete in today’s labor force by ending the state’s ban on affirmative action. Prop 16 expands equal opportunity to all Californians, increasing access to fair wages, good jobs, and quality schools for everyone.

“Californians, and California, can’t thrive if higher education opportunities are out of reach for historically underrepresented groups, and race-neutral policies are insufficient to close racial attainment gaps. The state’s ban on affirmative action has tied colleges’ hands for decades, and it’s time to overturn the ban and ensure all Californians have meaningful opportunity to earn a college degree,” said Debbie Cochrane, Executive Vice President of TICAS.
