Protecting Students Amid a Difficult State Budget Reality
“The May budget revision presents a difficult reality, with cuts likely to impact vulnerable Californians the most. Although we await additional details of the proposed budget, we anticipate painful cuts, which will have long-lasting effects on students and our state. Compounding these cuts are the lingering effects of COVID, the fallout of the U.S. Supreme Court decision curtailing race-conscious admissions, and ongoing FAFSA challenges,” said Jessie Ryan, executive vice president of the Campaign for College Opportunity, on the proposed May budget revision.
“Students are in the eye of a storm, but the Campaign for College Opportunity is determined to ensure they are shielded in the final budget agreement and supported moving forward. We appreciate Governor Newsom’s effort to implement a multi-year recovery strategy and urge that racial equity and students remain central to California’s road to restoration.”
