Gian Baez

Research Fellow
If higher education wasn’t valuable, then there wouldn’t be federal- and state-level actions restricting its access.

Gian was born and raised in the Bronx, NY to a single Dominican immigrant mother. From a young age, Gian and his younger sister understood the value of education for socioeconomic mobility. The Eagle Academy for Young Men founded Gian’s sociopolitical lens by exploring what it meant to be an Afro-Latino in the United States, and how to remain politically conscious and engaged. This led to Gian studying Sociology at the University of Virginia where he explored how race, socioeconomic status, and over-policing can affect educational outcomes for students. His passion for education research grew when he visited Norway to analyze how educational centered carceral systems can rehabilitate folks to re-enter society. Gian is committed to producing high-quality research to advocate for marginalized students and is excited to contribute to the research conducted at the Campaign!
