Markeshia Henry is a higher education advocate who has spent over 10 years serving students in academic advising and coaching. She earned her M.S. in Counseling: Student Development in Higher Education from California State University, Long Beach where she also worked as an academic advisor. Markeshia has worked at different institutions of higher education as an academic advisor, coordinator, and coach to both graduate and undergraduate students. In addition to her work in student affairs, Markeshia has engaged in institutional research to understand student enrollment, retention and graduation trends. She is an advocate for students persisting in overall wellness as they pursue their degrees and as an advisor regularly encouraged her students to engage in wellness practices such as exercising to manage stress.
While working as an academic advisor, Markeshia was often implementing policies set forth by California legislatives. As a two-time alum of the CSU system, serving California students continues to be a top priority for Markeshia; she intends to produce and contribute to research that will inform future policies to improve the educational attainment of BIPOC and underserved Californians. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Education at the University of California, Riverside. In addition to enjoying episodes of Bluey with her family, Markeshia loves engaging in her own wellness by lifting weights and indoor cycling.
