Mike Anthony Guillen is a first-generation Mexican-American from Southern California and a graduate of Long Beach Polytechnic High School. He attends the University of California, Irvine, where his work focuses on advancing student access, belonging, and institutional support through leadership and policy engagement.
Mike currently serves as the Communications Fellow, supporting student-centered communications and policy storytelling. He also works as an intern to the Associate Dean of Undergraduate Studies at UC Irvine, contributing to initiatives that strengthen student guidance systems, opportunity pipelines, and sustainable support structures. Previously, he served as Vice President of External Affairs for the Social Policy & Public Service Advocates and now serves as an Associate Justice with ASUCI, where he helps uphold constitutional integrity and accountability in student governance.
Motivated by the understanding that students often face complex institutional barriers without adequate support, he plans to pursue graduate study in Postsecondary Administration & Student Affairs and eventually a doctorate in Educational Leadership. His goal is to help build institutional practices that are not only more responsive and inclusive but that actively create pathways for mentorship, early intervention, and student voice—ensuring that students don’t just access higher education, but are equipped to succeed and persist through it.

When I am not at work helping students get to and succeed in college I am… spending time with friends, discovering new places across Southern California, or listening to music on late-night drives to decompress.
If not higher education then what cause? Supporting Latino communities by challenging stigma and helping the youth grow as leaders through an equity-centered leadership program.
