Your role in one sentence:
My role as a student is to educate myself to build a better life and to uplift those around me to do the same. I strive to be the best student I can be, while also serving in student government and leadership roles, including Student Body President at my college and as a member of the Board of Governors for the California Community Colleges. These roles have given me a powerful platform to advocate for equitable, student-centered policies that benefit all of society. My ultimate goal is to help make California and the world a better place, and I believe education is one of the most powerful tools to achieve that.
When I am not at work helping students get to and succeed in college, I am…
A free-spirited individual, eager to learn something new and experience things I never have. I start off my day by telling myself that today could be a journey even if I stay in my hometown. Especially living in the Greater Los Angeles area, I’ve met many locals who say they’ve done it all and are bored of this place. The irony is, L.A. is one of the largest metropolitan areas on Earth. There are countless opportunities to meet someone new, start an open-ended conversation, hear their story, and simply enjoy the moment.
If not higher education, then what cause?
Spreading joy and helping others find happiness. Since childhood, I’ve been told I’ve always cared deeply about making those around me feel good. I’ve always tried to find ways to contribute to that joy. From watching my mother volunteer at food drives at our local church, to becoming a Cub Scout where service was part of our identity, to attending Catholic school where altruism was instilled in me, I’ve always found meaning in helping others. That continued in my career as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) for over a decade. As I got older, I became deeply involved in civic engagement and looked for ways to better my community, hoping to create a ripple effect that inspires others to do the same. I believe in leading by example.
